As temperatures in Northern California have dipped to ten-year lows. our trusty, 54-year old furnace, an old-fashioned sheetmetal and cast-iron ‘upside down’ forced-air model popular in the 50s, has decided to fail.
Despite religious filter change and annual oiling of the motor, said motor failed last night shortly after Linda got home from a full-day vestry retreat. So, now were in warm clothes, trying to keep zones like the family room and bathrooms warm. Cassie and I did our 2.5 mile circuit, spotting the scene above near the house, while Linda jogged 90 minutes through the Academic preserve, snapping photos of iced-over culverts and heavy frost everywhere. Starting to wonder when the Gulker family is going to catch a tiny little break….
