Holiday glitter for a birthday girl

Linda poses in the gazebo by the Ritz Carlton at Half Moon Bay. Its holiday lights beckoned as we made our way along the coastal path this evening, on our way to a hoped-for romantic birthday dinner. The Ritz’ Conservatory was still reeling from back-to-back Teddy Bear Tea and Santa Claus with tree lighting, so it took a while for the roar, whines and screams of overwrought children to die down – to be replaced by the raucous chatter of parents too long at the bar.  Things did settle down after a while, and the surf, seen from our window table, was luminescent, adding to the holiday glow…

    The question torturing many a photographer is how to get the face properly exposed, yet keep the lights from getting washed out by a flash or blown out by overexposure.
