Victor's sonnet

We’re getting back into our Menlo Park routine after a month in France spent photographing the village of Ameugny and its environs and investigating the communauté at Taizé. Scott, Lily and I have completed two more laps of our morning Menlo ‘marathon.’ and yesterday I returned to strength training at the Palo Alto Y (which went better than expected after a month off).

After the workout, I went to Keeble & Shuchat to drop off a lens and flash that had bit the dust in France and saw friend Victor on his usual corner. Victor had news: his court case against the city of Palo Alto was going well, and he’d written a new poem, a ‘sonnet’ for friend and sometime employer Tom to read at the memorial service for his wife Sharon:

Sharon,

We come into this world

And we leave this world

We work and we play

We find joy and we find sadness

Good memories,

Good memories,

Good memories,

Sharon, we pray

Amen

You can listen to Victor reading his poem . Sharon, an attorney, died after a battle with cancer, according to Victor… I think the sonnet is beautiful…
