Eating locally, very locally…

Dinner, tonight, consisted of the greens you see above (they cook way down) from the garden, baby carrots from a local farm represented at Menlo’s farmer’s market this morning, and Petrale sole from Pietro Parravano, a Half-Moon-Bay fisherman. The chef would be presumptuous to say so, but the spouse gave the meal a thumbs up.

The greens and carrots were slowly braised in a mixture of vegetable stock and water, the sole was lightly floured and sautéed in butter, and served with a reduced fat lemon beurre blanc sauce (very little beurre – lots of limon). Pretty healthy meal – just enough calories to add flavor, but not ruin the very fresh ingredients. As you can see, Grace’s Easter-egg bucket has been recycled as my garden basket…

Re: greens envy – I credit Felipé Bustos our gardener/landscaper. Dunno what the formula for the planting mix he used in the boxes, but my plants love it. It has more clay in it than I used to favor…

Re: Cold in PA. That’s why this former Erie, PA resident now lives in CA! 🙂 Hope you guys are well… you should drop in on us next time you’re on this coast….

The sole recipe with greens and carrots sounded delicious and will definitely be on my menu this week. My own greens are growing quite successfully and I will now put them to very good use. Thankyou.
