The bête noire

As mentioned previously, Sixt, the European car rental co. pulled a particularly egregious bait-and-switch this year, sticking us with a giant Mercedes that I’ve dubbed The Bête Noir. I won’t belabor the expense, but the size of the car has been problematic – there’s hardly a street in Ameugny that doesn’t set off the car’s proximity alarms.

However, the car really was useful when Dave and Marty Arscott were here – four adults fit comfortably in this sedan, and Linda is starting to like the turbocharged, sequentially-injected diesel engine and the way the big car handles on the twisting backroads here in Saone-et-Loire. Lemonade from lemons, I guess…
